Do you dream? I guess the real question is…are you a dreamer? What do you think about when you drive, stand in the shower, or sit on an airplane? Those are the moments when we actually have the space…to think. What fills your mind? Is it fears, worries, hopes, desires.. What, consumes you?
I was running early one morning last week and proceeded down a narrow path that was covered by evergreens, ferns and bushes. The narrow path keeps the eyes focused ahead with a promise of sun, water and spectacle. After a short distance I was released into a small opening that gave way to a breathtaking peninsula, surrounded by the lake.
There I stood, heart pounding, my chest rising and falling as a fresh breeze carried life into my lungs. What was with me, in that moment, was unlike anything else on the face of this earth.
It frightens me, exhilarates my heart, leads me, guides my mind, and it seems like no matter how hard I try, no matter how diligently I progress through life, I simply cannot shake this simple truth… I have dreams.
I’m not talking about the craziness that happens when we sleep.. No, this is about the daytime dreams and the dreamers, who no matter how hard we try cannot stop our minds from being saturated with the unknown, impossible, and incredible.
One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from the late great Gene Wilder who played Willy Wonka. In the iconic movie the characters are about to enter into a garden of candy, every kid’s wildest dream. He looks at them and says, “We are the Dreamers of Dreams.”
Let that just sit with you for a moment.
When we really think about it, dreams don’t become reality without a dreamer. You are the only person who can have a dream and you are also the only one who can make that specific dream come true.
Your dreams are just that, they’re yours. But I believe with all my heart that in order for the dream to be truly yours, you have to know where it comes from.
We are the dreamers of dreams, yes, but we aren’t the ones who create them.
There is only one time in the New Testament of the Bible where the word dreams is mentioned and it’s after Jesus goes up to Heaven. Once He left, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the earth. God became among us, in us and able to flow through us.
With that incredible act of love and sacrifice comes something so beautiful… and it’s your dreams.
You were designed to dream, to be a dreamer of dreams.
When you recognize it, all things become possible because you are able to have vision for something so much greater than yourself. Then faith becomes redefined. The opposite of Faith is not Fear, it’s Certainty. (Mark Batterson) and there is nothing certain about a dream 🙂
Dreamers define faith. Because they are living for the most certain God who calls us, to the most uncertain things.
You are a dreamer of dreams.
The best is coming for your life,
